UNC Networked Intelligence & Cyber-Embedded Systems Lab (NIcE X Lab), focusing on the co-design of hardware platforms and software algorithms at the intersection of embedded AI, wearable technology, and computational AIoT systems. Our mission is to enhance personal wellness, fitness, and mental health by sensing the physical world in its many forms — and reimagining how AI and machine learning can transform the future of pervasive healthcare across the entire life cycle of data. [12/2025] We received an NVIDIA Academic Grant in support of our research project, “Federated Multimodal LLM Home Therapist for Proactive Mental Wellness Support.” 

[12/2025] Our survey paper, “The Convergence of Mental Health and AI: A Cross-Disciplinary Survey of Ubiquitous Sensing, LLMs, and Clinical Alignment“, developed in collaboration with licensed psychotherapists, Hanya Shao, LMHC, is now available as a TechRxiv preprint.

[11/2025] Our paper, “Breathing and Semantic Pause Detection and Exertion-Level Classification in Post-Exercise Speech“, was accepted and presented at the ACM IASA’23 Workshop. Congrats, Yuyu Wang and Wuyue Xia!
